Pollença

Pollença

Pollença is a small touristic town, with a wonderful Spanish vibe and a quiet but quite exciting atmosphere. It’s situated in the northern side of the Mallorca Island. Even if we are talking about a small touristic town on one of the Europe’s famous destinations for beach and summer enthusiasts, you won’t be able to find any beaches in Pollença, since its located 4 miles into mainland. The first settlers of Pollença were Catalans, in the 13th century, deciding to move deeper into the island, starting with the Bay of Pollença, in order to avoid the frequent pirates attacks, who normally using the bay to anchor their ships.

The water sports available in the region are limited to kayaking or swimming in the nearby river, Torrent de la Vall d’en Marc. However, the beach is very close, at only 10 minutes drive towards east, where you are welcomed by Bay of Pollença and a really great time.

Lack of a close beach doesn’t affect the beauty of this place. The cultural adventures you will experience along the Mediterranean Island are just as wonderful as the ones you could live in the big capitals of the old continent. The narrow streets separating beautifully designed buildings, some dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, plus the wonderful architecture, will offer you the means to spend a pleasant couple of hours. Moreover, all small family restaurants are serving delicious local cuisine.

If you are an active person, you can go for a hike on the sandy hills nearby, or even better, reach their peaks on a bike, that can be rented from one of the many bike-shops kept open all year round. Since the Pollença is a small town, there are not so many personal cars in town – transport is done mostly by bike, using scooters or on foot. Because of the bicycle friendly streets, the atmosphere in Pollença is similar to the one in Amsterdam, except for the weather, more cozy and enjoyable.

For a settlement so small, Pollença amazes tourists with one of the most astonishing golf course in Mallorca – Alcanada Club is welcoming guests all year round with a grass always green and well groomed. Pollença is a safe destination, so you won’t have to worry about pickpocketing, scammers or other dangers on the streets.
