Port de Sóller

Port de Sóller

Things to do - general

Port de Sóller is an attractive destination for tourists appreciating the charms of the Mediterranean sea, but also want to try the fresh air at the end of a good old hike through hills covered with bushes and olive trees. Port de Sóller is a small village in the municipality of Sóller, in the northern part of the island of Mallorca. It is best known for its long beaches, wonderful accommodation conditions and ease of access.

When it comes to transportation, you do have several choices of reaching this part if the island. The first one is the classic car trip from the Palma airport, but if you are flying to Mallorca, you should definitely take the train from Palma to Sóller. A very interesting alternative is to take a ferry from Valencia or Barcelona, combining your vacation with a visit to mainland Spanish cities and coastal area. However, these routes are not very popular and in order to do so, you should book a ticket within a week or two in advance. To improve your odds to catch a ferry or boat straight to or from Port de Sóller, you have to plan your vacation in the summer, during the peak of the island’s touristic season.
Water-sports and seaside leisure are some of the most popular summertime activities. Scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming, kite-surfing and even yachting are among the most popular water activities for tourists. However, there are other things you can do in Port de Sóller that can both relax and give you a good time. The Serra de Tramuntana is a great destination for nature lovers. This natural park gives you the chance of admiring olives in the wild, along with other fauna and flora specific to the Mediterranean islands.
If you like hiking, you should choose a trail on the hill right to the west of Port de Sóller. The trail is about 6 miles long and at the end of it you will serve a delicious meal accompanied by a wonderful view at the El Faro restaurant – a place to serve local and international cuisine at very convenient prices. Since you are there, you should also visit the lighthouse on top of the hill, from where you can enjoy breathtaking panoramas of Es Bufador Bay and the whole Sóller region.
The accommodation is affordable, the prices are significantly lower than the ones in bigger coastal cities and the locals are somehow friendlier and most of the times they up to party with tourists during traditional Spanish fiestas.
